We’re excited to introduce the latest enhancements to the Verdigris Admin Console, including a robust set of data validation tools designed to ensure the accuracy of your electrical data—even after initial configuration errors. Accurate energy data is crucial for meeting your sustainability goals, and with these new tools, Verdigris meters are now more fault-tolerant than ever.
Recover Accurate Data, Even After Installation Errors
Mistakes during installation can happen, even with the most experienced electricians. That’s why our new data validation tools are here to catch and correct those errors, ensuring you have an accurate and auditable dataset that your operations and sustainability teams can rely on.
Quickly Spot and Resolve Errors Verdigris has long run a continuous background validation process, to ensure your data collection and storage in Verdigris data lake is error-free. Now you can see the results of these continuous checks, with quick validation indicators in the panel configuration tool to help you verify data quality at a glance. Common errors include:
- CT Type Mismatch: Incorrect CT size configured during installation.
- Phase Assignment Mismatch: Illogical data reported due to incorrect phase assignment.
- Polarity Inversion: Data reversed due to incorrect CT configuration.
Figure 1: In this example, Verdigris discovered and flagged incorrect CT sizes that were configured during installation. The user clicks “Edit Panel” and selects the correct CT size, resolving the error.
Verdigris now provides clear CT Validation Indicators to guide you:
- Verdigris Green: CT is monitoring correctly.
- Red: CT is misconfigured or monitoring an incompatible load.
- Gray: CT is likely monitoring an unused circuit or is misconfigured.
Figure 2: Within 6 hours of adding a new panel, the CT Validation Indicators (Verdigris, Red, or Gray) are activated to provide users a quick indication of the data quality. In this case, EV Charger data is reporting accurately, validating the current configuration.
Easily Make Corrections For more technical users, we’ve introduced a simple tool to review critical metrics such as total energy, average power factor, and peak negative power values. If an error is detected, you can quickly correct the configuration, and the system will auto-update all related historical and ongoing data—ensuring high data integrity.
Figure 3: The user notices the red indicators and clicks the Validate CT button. User then reviews the data and corrects the configuration. The corrected issue was a phase assignment mismatch.
Resolve Common CT Configuration Errors Without Data Loss
Unlike other energy meters, Verdigris tracks all current transformer (CT) configurations, storing this information securely in our data lake. This means that even if an error is discovered long after installation, you can correct it without losing any data. For example, if CTs were installed with a phase mismatch, the data will report accurately once the configuration is corrected.
In a recent customer example, CTs were installed in the Phase B - Phase A configuration; however, they were digitally configured in the Phase A - Phase B configuration, resulting in negative data being reported (see Figure 4). After validating the phase and polarity in Admin Console, the correct configuration was applied, and the data was fixed (see Figure 5).
Figure 4: BEFORE - EV Charger breaker reported negative data.
Figure 5: AFTER - EV Charger breaker showing correct positive data following resilient configuration fix.
Maintain a Transparent Record of Changes We’ve made it easier than ever to keep track of all configuration changes. Every change is logged and can be reported through the Verdigris Admin Console or APIs, ensuring transparency and accountability in your operations.
Starting August 1, 2023, we’re rolling out these new IoT device management tools for all EV2 gateways and Admin Console users, with full completion expected by the end of 2023. Stay tuned for further updates, and feel free to reach out to us at solutions@verdigris.co to learn more.
